Scientific trip to Al Rostamiyah wastewater treatment station
Department of Civil Engineering Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Branch organized a scientific trip for the students of the third and fourth stage on Tuesday, 19/3/2019 to the wastewater treatment project in Rustamiya under the supervision of a number of the academic staff of the department, including Dr. Zineb Bahaa Dr. Ghayda Yasin Dr. Ghafran Farooq, Dr. Ayat Hussain, Faiza Ahmad, Alaa Qassem, Ahmed Foad and Zaid Al – Anbari.
During the scientific visit, the students learned about the main parts of the project and the treatment methods used from the beginning of the entry of waste water to the project and until the treatment of treated water is sent to the river.
The students said that such scientific trips are very important to them, and they were keen to make the most of them in identifying, exploring and inquiring to connect theoretical aspects in their studies with practical aspects.

Workshop on the moving from traditional to outcome-based education

A training workshop titled (Transition from traditional to Outcomes based Education) is held in the Department of Civil Engineering Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology Dr. Amin Douai Thamer, the main conference hall of the Civil Engineering Department.
at 9 am on Thursday 10/1/2019, assistant professor Dr. Ali Naji Attia, a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Kufa is hosted to illustrate the outcome based education.
Number of department staff have attended the workshop: Head of Civil Engineering Department, Hasan Hamoudi Jone, Administrative Assistant Department, Maan Salman Hassan, Director of the Division of Quality and Performance of the university in the department, Ali Majid, and a number of professors and staff of the department.
Dr. Ali Naji's lecture focused on how to design the curriculum to be based on learning outcomes and follow multiple strategies by the teachers to ensure that the student obtains the learning outcomes such as conducting periodic tests and evaluating the performance of students during lectures while raising some mental questions as well as evaluation during laboratory experiments and commissioning Students prepare scientific reports.
The workshop also pointed to the need of involvement the experts and employers in the design and development of curricula to suit the requirements of the labour market to ensure the incessant improvement of the educational system within the scientific institution.

Where the ceremony began with a speech by the head of the department, in which he commended the students and their outstanding scientific excellence and encourage them to continue on.

Seminar about geomatics engineering in the management of earthquakes and their effects
Under the patronage of the President of the University, Prof. Amin Douai Thamer, Building and Construction Department has established seminar titled (Geomatics Engineering in the management of earthquakes and their effects) On Sunday, 25-3-2018 and the presence of the General Hadi Zamili, Advisor to the Minister of Defense and Major General Dr. Abdul-Hassan Nassif Dujail and the President of the University of Technology Professor Dr. Amin Dway Thamer and the head of the Department of Construction and Construction Engineering Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny and a number of teachers and students section.
The seminar started with the speech of the university president, where he thanked the Department of Construction and Construction Engineering for his stay for this course because of its importance for the purpose of learning how earthquakes occur and how to manage the earthquake.
The University of Technology and through the Department of Building and Construction Engineering opened the remote sensing unit and then opened the geometrical engineering branch which deals with such matters and took upon itself the adoption of technological development in this aspect and cooperation to reach a prediction that benefits the community fully.
The head of the Department of Building and Construction Engineering, Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Jouni, welcomed the guests and the distinguished attendance. He said that the department is interested in holding specialized seminars and providing studies on important topics for the community such as
The Geomatics Engineering Branch is interested in these studies and managing the results of the earthquake. This seminar was proposed for the purpose of sharing the scientific information in the various specialties between the concerned departments and ministries.
And how to research the benefit of geomatics engineering in this field.
The seminar included two axes in which the researchers dealt with applied scientific research.

Workshop on Quality Control in Construction Projects
Building and Construction Engineering Department held a workshop in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities and the American Institute of Concrete Branch of Iraq (ACI Iraq Chapter) about quality control in construction projects under international standards
Title of the lecture: Requirements for quality control under American standard ACI 318-14M for the ACI Certification Program (ACI) and problems of cracks: their causes, types and procedures to address them.
Seminar title: ACI 318-14M QC requirements for people and laboratories working in the concrete testing and evaluation.

The aim of the lecture is to introduce the requirements for quality control in construction projects under the American Global Code (ACI) and compare it with the recent Iraqi code issued by the Central Agency for standardization and quality control. And to specify the steps required by the supervisor in case of ensuring that there is no defect in quality rather than treating the situation after it occurs.
The workshop was held on Tuesday, 5 December 2017, which lasted an hour and a half in the Hall of Housing Under the patronage and attendance of the Director General of the Department of Works and General Maintenance Professor (Mohammad Jaber Abboud) Department managers and design and implementation engineers from the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities as well as elite of the professors of engineering faculties of civil engineering in various Iraqi universities, where participants added an air of discussion and questions about the subject of the lecture with the introduction of some proposals and the possibility of repeating the lecture at the site Basmaya housing and the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tikrit.
The lecturer is of great importance in civil engineering and as this is accompanied by an update in the international standards which is supposed to be reflected on the efficiency and evolution of the nature of the design and implementation of concrete structures in Iraq.
Celebration Program and Recommendations of the Third International Conference of the Department of Building and Construction Engineering
A ceremony for the program and recommendations of the Third International Conference held in October in Egypt / Sharm El-Sheikh was held in the
Department of Building and Construction Engineering on Monday 27/11/2017.

Symposium at the Highways and Bridges Engineering Branch under title “Cold Asphalt Emulsions”

The Highways and Bridges Engineering Branch, Building and Construction Engineering Department organized the scientific symposium under the title “Cold Asphalt Emulsions”. The symposium held on 23 February 2017 at the hall of Prof. Dr. Hussein Mohamed Hussein and under carful of university chair: Prof. Dr. Ameen Daway Thamer and department chair: Prof Dr. Rayadh Al-Anbari, The symposium chair is: Prof. Dr. Mohamed Yousif Fattah.
The aim of the symposium is to increase the scientific knowledge about the Cold Asphalt Emulsions such as properties, type and techniques for using such material in construction and maintenance of the roads.
The symposium was opened after listened to holy Quran and starting with welcome speech for university chair, department chair and symposium chair. They talk also about the importance of the symposium topics for the present time and for the future of Iraq.
After that, series of presentations were presented based on the topics of each category as follows:

Workshop under the title “Sustainable Management of the Marshes” Organized by Water and Hydraulic Structures Engineering Branch
The Water and Hydraulic Structures Engineering Branch, Building and Construction Engineering Department in cooperation with the Iraqi Marshes and Wetlands Center organized the scientific workshop under the title “Sustainable Management of the Marshes”. The workshop held on Monday 20 February 2017 (9:30 O’clock) at the Hall of Prof. Dr. Hussein Mohamed Hussein and under carful of university chair: Prof. Dr. Ameen Daway Thamer and department chair: Prof Dr. Rayadh Al-Anbari, The workshop chair is: Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmud Al-Khafaji.
The aim of this workshop is to increase the scientific knowledge about the wet lands in Iraq and to discuss the problems and obstacles that hinder the development of marsh and highlight towards sustainable management of the marshes.
Marshes are found in southern Iraq since 6500 years ago and existed within triangle region located among Maysan governorate north, Basra governorate south and Dhi Qar governorate west. The marsh covers an area ranging about (4000 km2) during arid climate and (1500-9000 km2) during spring climate and thus representing approximately 33% of the total area of Iraq, and 34% of the area of the sedimentary land of Iraq.
The workshop consist of four important categories, namely: (First category: Integrated management of land in Iraq. Second category: Management of water resources of the basin of the Euphrates River in southern Iraq. Third category: Monitoring techniques and hydraulic and environmental assessment. Fourth category: Sustainable environmental management of the marshes.
The workshop was opened after listened to holy Quran and starting with welcome speech for university chair and department chair and they talk also about the importance of the workshop topics for the present time and for the future of Iraq.
